Young Aspiring Americans for Social & Political Activism (YAASPA)
Founded in 2010 by Dr. Mackey and her husband, YAASPA was created to address the lack of pathways for youth interested in the social sciences and social justice. Inspired by their academic and professional experiences, Dr. Mackey—a Colorado-born Black race scholar and activist—recognized the barriers many young people face in pursuing education and careers dedicated to creating social change. In response, YAASPA empowers youth through community organizing, advocacy, and leadership development, fostering self-efficacy while preparing the next generation of changemakers to advance equity and strengthen their communities.
